Mermaid doll completed

This mermaid doll was made using a pattern bought from Dolls and Daydreams. I changed a few things and added accessories to make her a “one of a kind” dolly. Because she was NOT made for a small child I was able to add beads and such without worrying about them being a choking hazard. For the shells, instead of using felt and the shell shaped pattern I used freezer paper and my printer. I ironed freezer paper (wax side down) on the wrong side of muslin fabric. The freezer paper gives  stiffness and stability to the fabric allowing me to put it through my printer like paper. I then printed out two pictures of a real shell onto the fabric. I heat set the ink on the fabric using a hot iron. I cut out a thin batting in the same shape as each shell and placed it under the shell. I then attached the shell using needle turned applique. With the hand embroidered face, the shells, and all the accessories that are hand sewn on a lot of hours was spent on this little miss. I don’t think I’ll be making another one very soon but this one is ready to go to her new home and hopefully be a “loved” birthday present for the sweet young lady it was made for.
