They Promised
Silence is the better of all worlds. Someday you will learn but not today.
Today you need to share.
Today you need to talk. Today you need to heal.
Today you need someone that will promise.
In kind concern and with a sympathetic expression they lean in and vow never to repeat what you share. They whisper that they understand and that, of course you can trust them no matter what. But there, just behind their eyes is a ravenous creature waiting to devour your every word. You open your mouth and they move closer savouring the scent of every raw vulnerable emotion and as you speak, they gourge.
Once said and done you hug them, thank them and walk away feeling better to have ridden yourself of the heavy burden you were carrying. You are grateful for a friend that you know you can trust. You feel better but the words you shared sit heavy on their stomach rising slowly to the back of their throat. That’s when your most trusted confidant adds a little seasoning of their own and regergitates the meal they recently took from you to another trusted friend. They now feel satified having shared such a delicious meal. They promised you but it’s okay. They know the one they shared with is one they can trust. After all, they promised.
Over and over the meal is seasoned, shared and regurgitated until you find yourself standing at the edge of a long banquet table. Before you a meal has been served that looks vaguely familiar but the seasoning is much more intense than what you shared and the portions overflow the dishes they sit on in a monstrous way.
In shock you wonder where the original recipe is. You say to yourself how can this be? This can’t be possible after all………..
they promised!
