-My Job-
I know many people that hate their jobs. They find work something they have to do to survive so they struggle through each day looking forword to the moment they can escape. I have had a few jobs like that so I understand. Our life here is short and feeling like that day in and day out is such a waste of precious time. It’s so sad….
Thankfully I no longer feel that way and haven’t for over 12 years now. I have a great job that I enjoy immensely. I get to go to work and do everyday what most people have to wait and do in their limited spare time. Every work day I get to teach sewing, quilting, crochet and more fun things to students that are there because they choose to be. They come in wanting to learn a new skill or get practice on what they recently learned. They sit with others that are also there because they want to be. They motivate and encourage one another while learning to laugh when a mistake is made because everyone has done the same thing many times over. The uncertainty and maybe even a little fear that they had as a new student quickly fades and friendships are formed.
Not always, but at times the room can get a little loud. Multiple sewing machines all humming at the same time, scissors snip, snip, snipping threads, rotery cutters rolling through layers of fabric, people talking in excited tones about the next quilt they have planned while sounds of oldies play from the radio. It’s wonderful chaos.
Then there is that magical moment when a new student completes their very first project. Others join in with cheers and clapping because they remember how they felt when they finished their first project and the room becomes filled with excitement and happiness. I get to be a part of that. I get to celebrate the first success and all those that follow. I have an amazing job! I am so blessed to be able to do what I do.

Fabric stitched together
that first was cut apart
Memories in the making
to warm both bed and heart
A wealth of quilting knowledge
to you I will impart
Just come and let me teach you
this treasured yet simple art.
