Selling crafts or any handmade item is especially difficult when it comes to setting the price for the finished product. Normally when I deduct the cost of the materials (not including the electricity to run my sewing machine or the wear and tear of my equipment) I am very lucky if I make $3 an hour. I do have another job so I don’t let it bother me too much because I would be sewing anyway, it does help supplement my income and I enjoy it immensely.
It has never bothered me when someone says they like what they see but just can’t afford it. I too have to pinch my pennies and understand their statement completely. However, I do feel a bit annoyed, and at times discouraged, when someone says something like,”WOW it costs how much?” or “Come on, do you really think it’s worth that much?” Then I realize the statements are made out of ignorance because they probably don’t sew, draw, paint, crochet or make anything with their hands otherwise they would understand the cost of the materials and the massive amount of time involved.
Now you’re probably wondering why I’m saying all this.
I’m not just rambling, though I do that very well.
The reason I am saying all this is to say
THANK YOU,
To each and everyone of you,
that have bought something from me.
Thank you for purchasing a handmade item from me that costs a bit more, instead of buying something manufactured by the 1000’s and shipped in from overseas that costs a few dollars less. Thank you for helping me pay the power bill, water bill, buy food or medicine that month. Your purchase has made a difference in my life and I appreciate the blessing you are.
And for those of you that couldn’t afford it but took the time to admire one of my little creations and tell me how much you like it,
THANK YOU
You are an encouragement for taking the time to let me know that you like what you see. Though you may not have helped me pay a bill or buy gas that month you have lifted my spirit and made my day a little brighter.
