Feeling Sad

Normally I’d be working on making quilting samples, quilting kits, planning class activities, and trying to decide what snacks to serve for National Quilting Day. And normally I would hold it at the recreaction center where I work but….. the center is not the same. There are new policies and expectations regarding payments and costs to the students so I had to call it off. It’s disheartening and it’s causing me to feel very discouraged.

Before I canceled it I spent hours on the phone and internet looking for someplace that would donate a room to a senior group for approx 4 hours that day but I had no luck. Every place charges and all the rental fees are out of my reach. I simply don’t have that kind on money so with a heavy heart I texted my students and let them all know the celebration had been called off.

I know that no one’s going to go hungry, be put out of their home or lose sleep because the celebration for National Quilting Day was canceled. It was a little thing. A way to celebrate the skills my students have learned in class. A way to show them that I’m so proud of all their hard work. It was a way for them to get together and have a few hours of enjoyment that they didn’t have to plan or pay for. It was a tiny way to let them know that I love being their instructor and am grateful that they are in my class.

It “was” all these things and more but now it’s “not” and it makes me sad. Very sad.
