Today I Played with Blocks

I don’t have any orders right now but I needed and wanted to sew for a while. I didn’t feel like starting a large project so I decided to play with some blocks instead.

I have a quilting tool made by Creative Grids that is used in making a quilt block called “Cat’s Cradle”. I’ve had it for a long time and never got around to working with it because normally I’m really busy. Today though I dug it out and enjoyed learning how to use it. What fun. It was relaxing and productive at the same time.

In case you’re wondering, you don’t have to have this tool to make a Cat’s Cradle block. You can measure, cut the pieces and assemble them like you would any other quilt block but this tool makes it faster and much easier. You can create different looking blocks just by assembling each one differently. I’ve posted pictures of some I made today but I know there’s more. Actually one just came to mind. Maybe I’ll make a sample of that one tomorrow.

By the way – if you’ve never tried one of the many Creative grids rulers you’re missing out. They are great rulers. If you have trouble understanding how the speciality ones work they have videos that take you step by step on how to use them. Oh and just so you know, I’m not being paid to tell you about these tools. I’m just sharing.

Here’s a picture of the tool. This one makes 6 sizes-2 at a time. They do sell one that’s larger if you want a larger finished block. Again….. a person does not need this took to make a Cat’s Cradle block but this tool makes it much easier.
This is a single finished Cat’s Cradle When you make multiple ones and assemble them together in a specific order you can create many different quilt blocks.
This has 4 Cat’s Cradle blocks placed together. The result is one of my 2 favorite blocks made with the Creative Grid tool.
The other block that is a favorite of mine is this one.
I think assembling the blocks together like this would make a really nice border on a quilt.

Which one is your favorite?
