Next project news!
Hi everyone.
Today I’d like to share a few of pictures of what we will be making in the Social Seniors sewing class that I teach at the Neighborhood Rec Center in North Las Vegas, NV.
I’m always searching for projects to use in the class. While looking around on the internet….I ran across a tutorial on the SewVeryEasy youtube channel for a small drawstring bag. It is simple, uses a very small amount of fabric, and is adorable. I knew right away it was perfect for the class. When I say it’s simple …. I mean “really” simple. I made my sample bag while in class last Monday as I helped my students with other projects. Even with the distractions it took less than one hour.
The finished measurements are approx. 7 inches tall, 7 inches wide with a boxed bottom of approx 2 inches. This picture shows the top open.
I used ribbon for the draw strings because that’s what I had available but you could use cording or any number of other things depending on your preference.
Here the top is closed
In this picture you can see the side/bottom seams.
Here is a picture that shows the pockets you get on the front & the back when it’s sewn together as directed. Isn’t that clever?
Depending on the fabric and/or embellishments it could be very “dressy” or extremely cutesy. I can see it done in white satin with a delicate lace overlay for a wedding. Maybe use a birthday themed novelty fabric then place a little money or a gift card inside. What about using very girlie fabric, some ribbon and ruffles, then fill it up with makeup or nail polishes? And yes, it could even be used for little boys…..dino or car fabric with cording instead of ribbon to pull it closed, then fill it with up with plastic dinosaurs or toy cars.
If you live in the area, are 55 years or older come join us at the Neighborhood Recreation Center. Once you are a member at a fee of $3.00 a year everything is normally supplied for each project, including sewing machines and notions. In the weeks to come though I will be helping my students learn how to read and understand store bought patterns as they each make a pair of summer shorts. Because everyone is a different size they will need to purchase a pattern for the shorts to use in the class. Call me if you have any questions.
………..AND REMEMBER………..
I also give private classes. Contact me if you are interested.
