CLASS NEWS! Project updates

NEIGHBORHOOD RECREATION CENTER:

The quilting class has been working hard to piece together baby quilt tops for quilts that are going to be donated to Nellis air force base families.    I’ve been able to help out a little by  doing the quilting and hand sewing on the binding for a few of them.  On others I’ve gotten to do all the steps: the piecing, sandwiching, quilting and binding.   I forgot to get pictures of some of them but, if I think of it before they are donated, I will go back and take pictures of  those that I forgot so I can post them later.

It’s difficult to get the pictures to show the free motion quilting that I’ve done but some of the pictures do show a bit of it.

I am completing the binding on another one right now. It will be done today.

BTW…….. I don’t teach the quilting class at the Neighborhood Center but I get to help out with this project so all the quilts are finished in  time to donate and  I consider it a blessing to be able to do so.

I really enjoy  the quilting process and would say it’s my favorite step but I love piecing so much and then I find hand sewing the binding on very  relaxing sooooo….. I guess they’re all my favorite part. (giggle).

Thanks Ellen and Marlene for letting me help out and  be a small part in this.

NEIGHBORHOOD RECREATION CENTER SEWING CLASS:

In the Social Seniors sewing class that I do teach at the Neighborhood Recreation Center the seniors are making baby items for their own grand and great grand babies while learning new techniques and growing their sewing skills.

(They learned how to do french seams yesterday)

Here are 2 pictures showing    bib and bootie sets that one senior was working on a week ago. This week they are all working on little reversible dresses with bloomers to match. I am so bad at remembering to get pictures as they complete their projects. I’m sorry and will try to do better so I can  document their progress for you to see.

WALNUT RECREATION CENTER:

Here are pictures of the completed quilts made by 2 of my students that are in the Sewing/Quilting class I teach at the Walnut Recreation Center.

This first one was made by a very young student. She’s a teen and this is her first quilt.  Great job Gina!!

This next one was made by a “very” busy mom that has to sneak in time here and there to sew.  This is the first time she’s ever done paper piecing! The center of her quilt was a pretty complicated block and she did a fabulous job!

Oh and by the way,  she used only scraps that were left over from previous projects (see why you should never throw out those scraps)

Way to go Ana!!

Okay I’d better get moving as I have lots to do and the sun will be rising soon.

I hope everyone has a blessed day!

sew happy girl
